Welcome To The Alvord Public Library
The Alvord Public Library is the public library for the small Texas town of Alvord. Alvord is located in northern Wise County which is in North Central Texas. The town of Alvord is roughly an hour's drive North on Highway 287 from Fort Worth; just over an hour's drive South on Highway 287 from Wichita Falls, and within an hour's drive West of Denton on Highway 380. The library is one of the city departments. The town's population is just over 1,000 people. Alvord is a small but growing community of down to earth people. Besides the library, Alvord has an excellent Volunteer Fire Department and school system. There are numerous other businesses in and around Alvord including a bank, several locally owned eating establishments, two convenience stores, a grocery store and a new Dollar General Store. There are several churches in or near Alvord as well as a new city park. Come visit us.
Our History
Alvord was founded in 1882 and was named in honor of the president of the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. The library grew out of the town's centennial celebrations in 1982 and opened its doors in May 1983. The town and the library have slowly but steadily been growing over the past several decades.
